Connect Waybook to Your AI Tools with MCP

Use the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to connect your Waybook knowledge to AI tools like Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity.

Written by Elle

This feature is available to all Waybook Pro teams

What if your AI assistant already knew everything in your Waybook? With the Model Context Protocol (MCP), it can.

MCP is an open standard that lets AI tools - like Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity - connect directly to your Waybook knowledge base. Instead of copying and pasting information into your AI chat, your assistant can pull from your documented processes, policies, and guides in real time.

That means faster answers, grounded in your team's actual knowledge - not generic AI responses.

Can I get early access?

  • MCP is currently in early access alpha and works with any MCP-compatible AI tool. It's available for Pro plan teams and is not yet generally available. If you'd like to try it out, reach out to your Account Manager or drop us a message.

What is MCP?

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is a way for AI tools to securely read information from external sources - in this case, your Waybook. Think of it as giving your AI assistant a direct line to your team's single source of truth.

Once connected, you can ask your AI tool questions and it will use your Waybook content to give you accurate, context-aware answers. For example:

  • "Show me my Waybook structure prioritized by policies first, then processes"

  • "Using my brand guidelines document in Waybook, what is our primary brand color?"

  • "Summarize our onboarding process for new hires"

Your AI assistant responds using your team's real documentation - not a guess.

Is my data safe?

Yes. Waybook's MCP connection follows the same permission model as the rest of the platform. You can only ever access documents and knowledge that you have permission to read. If a document isn't shared with you in Waybook, your AI tool won't be able to see it either.

This means your team's sensitive information stays protected - even when accessed through an AI assistant.

A few extra things worth knowing:

  • You can disconnect Waybook from any AI tool at any time through that tool's connector or settings page.

  • Waybook's MCP connection is read-only (for now) - your AI assistant can pull information from your Waybook but can't create, edit, or delete documents.

Your Waybook MCP server URL

When an AI tool asks for an MCP server URL, use:

mcp.waybook.com/mcp

This is the same URL for every Waybook customer. When you connect, Waybook will ask you to confirm which team you wish to use (if you have more than one) and to enter your password to confirm it's you connecting.

πŸ’‘ Heads up: If you paste this URL into your browser, you won't be able to use the server directly. The MCP server is designed to be used by compatible AI tools (sometimes called MCP clients), not by humans directly. Once you've connected, the AI tool will know how to use them.

Connect Waybook's MCP to your AI Agent

Copy and paste this prompt into your AI agent to connect Waybook's MCP:

Help me integrate my team's business knowledge and processes using the Waybook MCP Server.

Start by reading the information in https://www.waybook.com/features/mcp and https://help.waybook.com/en/articles/15261183-connect-waybook-to-your-ai-tools-with-mcp to learn how to connect to Waybook. You will need to guide me based on which AI tool you are and how MCP connections are configured.

After I have setup my MCP connection, please list some helpful examples to get me started.

MCP is a new feature, and we're actively developing it. If you have questions, run into any issues, or want to share feedback, we'd love to hear from you. Just reach out to the support team or to your Account Manager directly.
