Enhance Readability with the Split Step Feature

Clear and concise documentation is key to effective knowledge sharing. Waybook’s Split Step feature helps you break down lengthy content into structured, readable steps—perfect for organizing imported documents or optimizing existing ones.

What Is the Split Step Feature?

The Split Step feature allows you to separate content into multiple steps directly within a Waybook document. This is particularly useful for:

  • Breaking long documents into digestible sections.

  • Creating logical steps based on existing headers or subheadings.

  • Enhancing readability and clarity for your team.

How Does It Work?

  1. Hover Over the Node: When you hover over any content block, a six-dot icon will appear to the left of the block (see screenshot below).

  2. Click the Icon: Click the six dots to reveal the option to split the step.

  3. Split the Content: All content following the selected point will be moved into a new step.

  4. Auto-Populated Title: Waybook will use the first line of the new step as its title. This works seamlessly if your content uses headers, saving you even more time.

Why Use the Split Step Feature?

The Split Step feature is most commonly used when importing content into Waybook. However, it’s a versatile tool that benefits any document optimization process by:

  • Improving Structure: Dividing long content into steps makes it easier to follow and reference.

  • Saving Time: Auto-populated titles streamline the process when working with headers.

  • Boosting Readability: Shorter, focused steps improve comprehension and team engagement.

Tips for Effective Splitting

  • Use clear and descriptive headers to make the most of the auto-title feature.

  • Review your content before splitting to ensure logical step transitions.

  • Regularly optimize your existing documents with Split Step to enhance readability.

By leveraging the Split Step feature, you can create well-structured, engaging documents that are easy for your team to navigate and understand.
