Already have your documentation in Markdown? Great news - you can seamlessly import it into Waybook, saving hours of manual work and keeping your formatting intact.

Whether your content lives in Notion, Loom, Obsidian, GitHub, or another Markdown-based tool, it’s easy to bring everything into one centralized source of truth within Waybook.

Why Import from Markdown?

Markdown is the go-to format for clean, structured documentation. If you're migrating from tools like:

  • Notion (exported Markdown pages)

  • Loom (video transcripts in Markdown)

  • Obsidian (Markdown vaults)

  • GitHub (Repos and Wikis using .md files)

  • HackMD, Bear, or similar editors

Waybook helps you move fast by importing your existing content in just a few clicks - no reformatting required.

How to Import Markdown Files

Follow these simple steps to bring your documentation into Waybook:

Step 1: Export from Your Current Platform

Export your content as .md files. Here's how in popular tools:

  • Notion: Export → Markdown & CSV

  • Loom: Download video transcript as Markdown

  • Obsidian: Files are already in .md format

  • GitHub: Clone or download the repo

  • Others: Use any “Export as Markdown” or “Save As .md” option

Step 2: Import into Waybook

  1. Open your Waybook Dashboard

  2. Open Import from the left-hand menu, or navigate to the document you want to add content to, and from the list of New Step options, select Import

  3. Select Markdown from the list of options

  4. Upload or drag & drop your .md file(s)

  5. Preview and refine before saving

What Happens After Import?

  • Markdown headings become structured steps in Waybook

  • Formatting is preserved (bold, italics, lists, quotes)

  • Files convert into editable, organized content, ready for team-wide access

Now you can enhance your imported content with:

  • Embedded videos (e.g. from Loom)

  • Quizzes & checklists

  • Attachments and links

  • Internal navigation between steps

Turning Loom Videos into Searchable Docs

If you’re using Loom for internal walkthroughs or training:

  1. Export your video’s transcript

  2. (Optional) Clean it up in a Markdown editor

  3. Import into Waybook to make it searchable and standardized

It’s the fastest way to transform async video into accessible, documented team knowledge.
