Customizing Your Organization's Dashboard

Learn best practices for creating an effective dashboard header image that enhances your Waybook without overwhelming the interface

Written by Elle

The Dashboard is the primary gateway for your team when they log into Waybook. Built to be your organization’s internal home, it is fully customizable to reflect your brand, broadcast vital company news, and provide seamless access to external tools through integrated video and web embeds.

How to Customize Your Dashboard

To tailor your team's experience, toggle on Edit Mode when on your dashboard. Changes you make apply to the entire organization, ensuring a consistent and professional environment for every member.

Core Customization Features:

  • Custom Header Images: Upload a high-quality header image to reinforce your branding and set the tone for your workspace, by pressing the Settings icon on your Dashboard header.

  • Web & Video Embeds: Add widgets to embed welcome videos, live data dashboards, or external tools directly onto the landing page.

  • News & Polls Views: Toggle these views to ensure the most relevant company updates and feedback loops are front and center.

  • Organization-Wide Control: Admins can establish a standard layout for all readers, keeping the entire team aligned with current priorities.

Resizing the Left-Hand Menu

The dashboard layout you set applies to everyone, but each member can still fine-tune their own view. Hover over the right edge of the left-hand menu, then drag it wider or narrower.

Waybook saves that width to their account, so their Waybook opens exactly how they left it every time they log in. A wider menu makes it easier to scan your full structure at a glance, and a narrower one gives more room for reading. The menu can also be collapsed entirely for a distraction-free view.

💡 Waybook Tip

  • Menu width is a personal setting, so it won't change the dashboard you've set up for the rest of your organization.

Banner & Visual Best Practices

To ensure your dashboard remains professional and highly readable, follow these essential design guidelines:

  • Prioritize Simplicity: Use subtle patterns or soft brand elements rather than busy, detailed images that can make the dashboard feel visually noisy.

  • Maintain Content Hierarchy: Keep focal points toward the top of the banner and avoid placing key elements in the lower middle area, where they may compete with dashboard widgets.

  • Optimize for Readability: Check the contrast between your background and dashboard elements to ensure all text and widgets remain clear. Consider adding a soft overlay to maintain visual consistency.

  • Minimal Text: Banners should support the interface, not communicate detailed messaging. Keep text to an absolute minimum or avoid it altogether.

  • Design for All Screens: Keep important content away from the edges to ensure it isn't lost when the dashboard crops for mobile or smaller screens.

  • Think Long-Term: Choose timeless imagery that provides a lasting foundation for your team's workspace.
