Waybook's Split Step feature lets you break imported documents and long content into separate, structured steps in seconds - so your team can follow along without scrolling through a wall of text.
How to Split a Step
Hover over any content block inside a step and press the six-dot icon that will appear on the left.
Select Split Step from the list of options. Everything below that point will move into a new step.
Waybook automatically uses the first line of the new step as its title. If your content already has headers, the titles populate perfectly - no extra editing needed.
When to Use Split Step
Split Step is especially useful when you've just imported a Word document or PDF and the content has landed as a single long step. Rather than manually copying and pasting sections into new steps, you can split them out in a few clicks.
It's also handy when you're refining an existing document. If a step has grown too long or covers multiple topics, splitting it helps your team find what they need faster and keeps each step focused on one clear action or concept.
π‘ Waybook Tip
Use clear headers in your original content before splitting. Waybook pulls the first line of each new step as the title, so well-structured headers mean your steps are already named and ready to go.
Getting the Most Out of Split Step
Before you start splitting, take a quick look at the content and identify the natural break points - usually where a new heading, topic, or action begins. This keeps your steps logical rather than arbitrary.
Each step should cover one process, one concept, or one action. If you find yourself splitting a step and the result still feels long, it might need another split. On the other hand, if two pieces of content only make sense together, keep them in the same step. The goal is clarity for your team, not more steps for the sake of it.
