Written by Elle

File attachments let you include downloadable resources directly in your Documents. It's perfect for making forms readily available to your team, providing templates, or sharing reference materials alongside your instructions.

Adding File Attachments

To attach a file to a Step:

  1. Open the editor menu by clicking the + icon or using slash commands.

  2. Select Attach File.

  3. Upload your file.

  4. Publish the Document to make it visible to your team.

You can also reach the attach file option from the editor toolbar at the top of your Step.

💡 Waybook Tip:

  • Add a short line of text next to each attachment so your team knows what the file is and what to do with it. A little context turns a download into a clear action.

Attach or Embed a PDF?

Waybook gives you two ways to bring a PDF into a Step. Which one you choose comes down to what you want your team to do with it - take the file away, or read it in place. Both are added the same way, through the + editor menu or slash commands.

Attach a file

Adds the file as a download. Best when your team needs to take it away - filling in a form, printing a template, or signing a contract.

Embed a PDF

Adds the PDF as its own block so your team can read it right inside the Step, without downloading. Best for reference material they just need to view in place - a policy, a one-pager, or a handbook.

When to Use File Attachments

Attach files when your team needs downloadable resources:

  • Forms that need to be completed offline (expense reports, evaluation forms)

  • Templates for documents or presentations

  • Reference materials like checklists or worksheets

  • Contracts or agreements that require signatures

  • Certificates or compliance documents

File attachments keep essential resources connected to your processes, so your team always knows where to find what they need.
