đ§Ș The AI Assistant is in alpha.
You're getting an early look while we build it out. It's available to a small group of teams for now, and its skills are growing all the time - so it may change or be briefly unavailable while we make improvements. It's free to use during alpha - if pricing ever changes, we'll tell you first.
The AI Assistant is your new home for AI in Waybook. Tell it what you need in plain language, and it helps you draft and structure content, build tests, work from your own files, find what's already in your Waybook, and more. It's one place to get more done - so you spend less time building and more time getting your team on the same page.
What the AI Assistant can do
Think of the AI Assistant as a hands-on helper across your whole Waybook. You describe what you want, and it does the heavy lifting. Its set of skills is growing all the time, and already includes:
Create and shape content. Draft a new document from a prompt, add tests and confirmation steps, reorganize steps, or tidy up wording, tone, and formatting.
Match an existing style. Point the Assistant at a document you like - an internal template or your house styling - and it can apply that formatting to another document in your Waybook.
Work from your source materials. Attach a file and the Assistant can review it and turn it into a structured document.
Find what's already in your Waybook. Track down the document or detail you need without digging.
Spot knowledge gaps. See where your documentation could be more complete.
And because it's in alpha, this list keeps growing. Your feedback as a tester helps decide which skills we build next.
How to use it
The AI Assistant lives in the top-right of your Waybook. Click the AI Assistant icon in the top navigation bar to open the panel.
[Editor's note for Elle: add a screenshot of the AI Assistant panel here.]
The Assistant knows where you are in your Waybook. If you're viewing a document, it already knows which one you mean - so you can just say "tidy up this doc" without spelling out which.
Once it's open, you can:
Type your request in plain language in the Ask the AI Assistant anything box. For example: "Create an onboarding checklist for new field technicians" or "Turn this file into a document."
Or start from an idea. Pick one of the suggested prompts, like Draft a new document, Find something in our Waybook, Identify knowledge gaps, or Turn a file into a document.
Add Source Files if you'd like the Assistant to work from your own material.
Review what the Assistant creates or changes, and guide it with a follow-up prompt to refine the result.
Refresh the page to see your updates.
Your conversations are saved under Recent Chats, so you can pick up right where you left off.
đĄ Waybook Tip:
If you've asked the Assistant to update something and don't see the change straight away, refresh the page. Your updates are saved - they just need a refresh to appear.
Good to know while it's in alpha
The AI Assistant is an early release, so it's worth knowing what to expect while we build it out.
Its skills are growing. Today the Assistant focuses on creating and editing content. Next, we're exploring areas like permissions, assignment, members, groups, and reporting. If there's something you wish it could do, tell us.
It respects your permissions. The Assistant can only see and do what your own user account has permission to - nothing more.
It may change or pause briefly. As an alpha feature, it's still being refined. We may make changes or take it offline for short periods while we improve it.
It's free during alpha. Using the Assistant is free while we release it to early testers. As we introduce pricing later, we'll always let you know before it affects your bill.
How it fits with Waybook's other AI features
The AI Assistant brings Waybook's AI into one place. Your other AI tools are still right where you expect them:
The AI Document Writer is still available when you create a document.
AI Actions still help you fix grammar, expand, or summarize highlighted text as you write.
Waybook Ask still lives in Search, ready to answer questions from your knowledge base.
MCP remains a separate way to connect your external AI tools to your Waybook.
You're one of the first to try the AI Assistant, and your feedback decides what it learns to do next. Tried something that worked well, found a skill you wish it had, or hit a snag? Our support team would love to hear from you.
