Learn more about the improvements and new features launched to Waybook this month

Written by Elle

August's update is all about the everyday. Tables, comments, search, and your sidebar have all had attention this month, with the focus on making Waybook quicker and easier to work in day to day.

Here's a look at what's new:

Table Improvements

Tables in your documents have had a solid round of improvements this month, giving you more control over how structured information looks.

You can now set background colors on individual cells, so you can highlight a header row, flag a status, or draw attention to the rows that matter most. Inserting a table uses a grid-size picker too, so you choose your dimensions before the table appears rather than adding rows and columns afterwards.

Tables are also more responsive to work with. Wide tables show scroll fades at the edges so it's clear when there's more content off-screen, images inside cells hold a minimum width so they stay readable, and pasting a table in from another tool keeps its shape much better. These improvements apply to your externally shared documents too.

🚀 Quick Win

  • Open a document with a table in it and set a background color on the header row. It's a small change that makes structured information much easier to scan.

Activity & Comments Timeline

Your activity and comments timeline has had a refresh, making it easier for you to see everything that's happened to a document in one place.

Replying to and editing a comment happens inline now, right where the comment sits, rather than sending you to a text area at the bottom of the panel. There's also a filter to show comments only, which makes it much easier to follow a conversation on a document with a lot of edit history behind it.

If more than one person in your team creates and maintains content, this makes collaborating on a document far easier to follow.

Search Improvements

Finding content is faster this month. The search modal has been updated, with improvements to how it works on mobile.

Search results now show document status, so it's clear at a glance what's a draft or archived when you have those toggled on. Your draft toggle setting is remembered between searches too, so you don't have to set it every time.

Collapsible content behaves better as well. When you arrive at a document from a search result, any collapsible section containing your search term expands automatically with the term highlighted, in reader mode.

Resizable Sidebar

Your sidebar can now be resized. Drag the edge to set the width that suits you, and Waybook remembers your choice.

If you have a deep structure with long subject and document names, a wider sidebar makes navigating your Waybook easier.

Scores on Individual Submissions

You can now see the score on an individual submission, so you can review exactly how one person performed rather than working from the overall view.

Submissions views are linkable too. Filter down to the results you need and copy the link from your browser. Share it with anyone who has manager or admin access, and they'll land on exactly the same view. It makes prepping for a one-on-one or a review something you can do together, from the same set of results.

Coming Soon: The AI Assistant

The AI Assistant is your new home for AI in Waybook. Open the panel, tell it what you need in plain language, and it gets on with the work.

It can draft a new document from a prompt, turn a file you already have into a structured one, and apply the formatting of a document you like to another one. It can also track down something buried in your Waybook, and show you where your documentation has gaps. Its list of skills is growing all the time.

It's in alpha at the moment, with a small group of teams testing it and helping decide what it learns to do next. It's free while it's in alpha.
